One of hte most important things I look for in any job are the benefits. Benefits show a companies willingness to go the extra mile in providing you a stable future, and ensuring you get the best you can. As big as some retail stores are, you can mostly expect competitive benefits for your services. If you’re considering a job at Walmart or simply curious about the perks they provide, you’ve come to the right place.

Walmart offers a variety of benefits to its employees, including:

  • Health insurance

Healthcare Benefits

As a Walmart employee, you can access various healthcare benefits designed to cater to your individual and family needs. This includes things we all need like dental and vision coverage.

Medical Plans

What I like about the medical plans Walmart offers is that they are flexible and there’s something ot meet everyones budget. These plans emphasize preventive care by connecting you with digital benefits programs in select areas to provide easy access to prompt and convenient medical services.

The specific plans available may vary by location and job type, but some of the options include:

  • Premier Plan
  • Contribution Plan
  • Saver Plan
  • Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Local Plans
  • PPO Plan

Employees enrolled in most Walmart medical plans have access to specialists and hospitals through the company’s Centers of Excellence program. The program is designed to provide high-quality care while also controlling costs.

Dental and Vision Coverage

In addition to comprehensive medical plans, Walmart employees can also take advantage of dental and vision coverage. These benefits play an essential role in maintaining your overall health and well-being.

Dental plan options include the following levels:

  • Preventive Plan
  • Basic Plan
  • High Plan

The dental plans are administered by Delta Dental, and employees can contact Delta Dental at 800-462-5410 for help with their dental plan.

Financial Benefits

As a Walmart employee in the United States, you have access to various financial benefits that can help secure your future and protect you and your family.

401k Plan & Stock Purchases

Walmart values your financial well-being and offers a 401k plan as one of its many benefits. In this plan, Walmart will match your contributions up to a certain percentage of your wages, helping you save for retirement more effectively.

If you are interested in investing like myself, then youll be happy to know the 401k plan coers everything from mutual funds to company stock.

I like that the plan is accessible to each employee, can be transferred if you ever decide to quit Walmart, and they’ll even match up to 6% dollar-for-dollar. But keep in mind that match starts after the first year once you’ve commited some time to the company.

Employees can enroll in the plan and change their contribution levels at any time through the Plan’s website or by calling the Customer Service Center.

Walmart also offers an associate stock purchase plan, allowing you to invest in the company’s growth. By participating in this plan, you can purchase Walmart stocks at a discounted price, and the company will match a percentage of your stock purchases.

Optional Associate Life Insurance

Life insurance protects you and your family in an unexpected tragedy. Walmart offers optional associate life insurance plans, providing financial support for your loved ones in case of your death. You can customize your coverage amount to best suit your family’s needs, ensuring they are cared for if the worst happens.

Critical Illness Insurance

Lastly, critical illness insurance is also available for Walmart employees. This type of insurance offers financial protection in case you are diagnosed with a severe medical condition.

So, this service is actually provided by Allstate.  The coverage provides a lump-sum cash benefit if an employee or a covered loved one is diagnosed with a covered critical illness, such as heart attack, stroke, or end-stage renal failure.

Work-Life Balance

Taking care of yourself is essential, and Walmart recognizes this by offering a variety of work-life balance benefits for its employees.

Paid Time Off

As a Walmart employee, your paid time off depends on your years of service, full-time or part-time status, and hours worked. Full-timers can max 120 hours within the first two years, while part-timers can reach up to 48 hours.

Additionally, you can roll over up to 80 hours to the following year. Walmart also provides two weeks of advance notice for scheduling to help you plan your personal life outside of work.

Resources for Living

Walmart’s Resources for Living program is designed to support your mental health and well-being. This comprehensive program provides confidential counseling and support services for various life concerns, including stress management, family issues, and financial planning.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Walmart increased the number of free counseling sessions available to its employees to ensure their well-being.

Counseling and Support

Along with the Resources for Living program, Walmart offers other wellness benefits to ensure a healthy work-life balance.

One of these perks is a $9 gym membership with access to thousands of fitness facilities through the Walton Life Fitness Pass. Employees and their family members can save 10% on general merchandise, fresh fruits, and vegetables at any Walmart store.

Education and Development Benefits

As a Walmart employee, you’ll have access to various education and development benefits to help you grow personally and professionally.

College Tuition Assistance

One of the most significant benefits provided by Walmart is their tuition assistance program called Live Better U. This program covers 100% of college tuition and books, making it possible for you and 1.5 million part-time and full-time Walmart and Sam’s Club associates in the U.S. to earn college degrees or learn trade skills without the burden of education debt.

Starting from August 16th, the previous $ 1-a-day fee has been removed, meaning the education programs are now totally paid for by Walmart.

Walmart’s Live Better U program has been designed in partnership with Guild Education, a Denver-based organization supporting businesses that invest in employee education benefits.

Family Benefits

Walmart is dedicated to supporting its associates with various family benefits, making balancing work and personal life easier.

Maternity and Parental Leave

Walmart provides paid time off (PTO) for holidays, sick days, vacations, or just a little downtime. To ensure a smooth transition for new parents, Walmart offers up to 12 weeks of paid maternity leave for birth mothers, while all parents are eligible for six weeks of paid parental leave following the birth, adoption, or foster-care placement of a child.

The leave can be taken in one week increments following birth. One thing I should mention is that if you end up taking time less than the one week increment, itll still be counted as a full week. So, its best to maximize your time, and use all of the leave available to you.

Adoption Benefit

In addition to maternity and parental leave, Walmart supports their associates who grow their families through adoption by offering financial assistance. You can receive up to $5,000 per adopted child to help cover eligible adoption-related expenses, which can make a significant difference when you’re welcoming a new family member.

Along with that is a maximum of $10,000 per year maximum, and a $20,000 lifetime maximum. So, that adds up to 4 children in total. If you do decide to take care of this adoption benefit, just be sure to provide all the necessary paperwork within 180 days.

Also, keep in mind the money provided by Walmart helps cover legal fees and travel associated with your adoption!

Additional Perks

As a Walmart employee, you can enjoy a variety of additional perks that the company offers. These benefits make your work experience more enjoyable and improve your overall well-being.

Employee Discounts

Walmart employees receive a 10% discount on general merchandise, fresh fruits, and vegetables at any Walmart store after working for the company for at least 90 days.

This discount also applies to online purchases, excluding gift cards, tires, and photo orders. In addition, you can benefit from discounts on travel, entertainment, and cell services to further enhance your experience as a Walmart associate.

Gym Membership

Physical wellness is essential, and Walmart understands that. They offer their associates access to thousands of fitness locations with a $9 gym membership through the Walton Life Fitness Pass. This affordable membership allows you to prioritize your health and maintain an active lifestyle while working for the company.

Fitness Pass

The Walton Life Fitness Pass provides you with affordable gym access and offers various classes and activities at participating fitness centers. With this pass, you can explore different workouts, helping you stay motivated and engaged on your fitness journey.
