Which Holidays Is Publix Closed

Nothing is worse than driving to Publix on a holiday to find out they’re not open. I’m guilty of that, and I can’t stress enough that when it comes to grocery shopping, it’s always helpful to know which holidays might affect Publix store hours.

Thats the time of year when if you’re short an ingredient, the whole meal is ruined right? Well, I think you get my point! So, to ensure you can plan your shopping trips accordingly, we’ll look at which holidays Publix is closed, and even the ones where hours are more limited so you know what to expect.

Publix is closed on these holidays:

  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
  • Easter Sunday

Thats just three days, but theya re some of the most important ones of the year. It’s always a good idea to check with your local store to confirm their hours, as they can vary by location.

Major Holidays When Publix Closes Earlier

While Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving are holidays are the main ones that Publix is closed, there are some other holidays when Publix may have limited hours. That’s just important to know as well, as you may go to the store late in the evening thinking they’re open when they arent!

Here’s a list of holidays when Publix may limit their hours:

  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day (4th of July)
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Halloween
  • Veterans Day
  • Presidents Day
  • St. Patrick’s Day
  • Valentine’s Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Many of these holidays may see Publix operating with reduced hours instead of being completely closed. Still, it’s always a good idea to double-check by visiting their local listing on Google or calling your local store ahead of time to confirm the operating schedule.

Comparison with Other Grocery Stores

Although Publix is closed on several of the main holidays, that is not the case for every grocery store. It’s nice to have options, so if you need to do some grocery shopping on one of those major holidays, this list will surely be a gem for you.

  • Thanksgiving Day:
    • Publix: Closed
    • Aldi: Closed
    • Kroger: Some stores open with adjusted hours
    • Walmart Grocery Store: Open
    • Winn Dixie: Most stores open with adjusted hours
    • H-E-B: Open with adjusted hours
  • Christmas Day:
    • Publix: Closed
    • Aldi: Closed
    • Kroger: Closed
    • Walmart Grocery Store: Closed
    • Winn Dixie: Closed
    • H-E-B: Closed
  • New Year’s Day:
    • Publix: Regular hours
    • Aldi: Most stores open with adjusted hours
    • Kroger: Regular hours
    • Walmart Grocery Store: Open
    • Winn Dixie: Regular hours
    • H-E-B: Open with adjusted hours

As you can see, all of the stores on that list are closed on Christmas Day. So, your best bet would either be a local grocery store, or a hybrid shopping store. For example, you’ll have options like CVS and Walgreens, which have a limited grocery selection. Then, of course, convenience stores with even less to choose from.
