Does Walmart Take Apple Pay

If theres one thing I absoltuely love about my Apple Watch is the payment feature. Apple Pay is super convenient, and I try to use it everywhere I can so I don’t have to carry a wallet around. However, its not accepted everywhere, and even places like Walmart make this difficult.

Walmart does not currently accept Apple Pay at its registers. Instead, they use Walmart Pay, their own payment service available through the Walmart app on the iPhone.

Sure, it’s disappointing for Apple Pay users like myself, but understanding Walmart’s current stance migth make you feel a little less annoyed about it. There’s plenty to like about Walmart Pay, and with rewards and savings tied in, its actually not that bad of an option.

It remains to be seen whether Walmart will accept Apple Pay in the future, I dont’ know, hopefully. But the present reality is that you’ll need to find alternative payment options when shopping at Walmart.

Walmart’s Payment Policies

Walmart is one of the major retail giants, yet they do not accept Apple Pay as a form of payment. Instead, Walmart encourages customers to use its in-house payment solution, Walmart Pay. This service is easily accessible through the Walmart app. R

Don’t think you’re going to get away from this by switching to Android either. Regrettably, Walmart does not accept other popular mobile payment solutions like Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

Walmart Pay vs. Apple Pay

Walmart Pay is different from Apple Pay in several ways. Firstly, Walmart Pay uses QR codes to process transactions, whereas Apple Pay relies on near-field communication (NFC) technology. Because Walmart stores lack NFC technology, they do not support Apple Pay.

Another notable difference is the compatibility of the payment systems. Walmart Pay can be used on Android and iOS devices, while Apple Pay is exclusively for Apple devices. This means that Walmart Pay has a broader usage base.

Moreover, with Walmart Pay, you can enjoy exclusive deals, savings, and rewards, as it is integrated with Walmart’s reward program.

Accepted Payment Methods at Walmart

While Apple Pay isn’t availble, there’s still many standard options out there. Think along the lines of gift cards, debit cards, QR codes and that sort of thing.

Credit and Debit Cards

Walmart accepts a wide variety of credit and debit cards for your convenience. Major cards like Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover are all welcome. When using your card, simply provide it to the cashier or insert it into the card reader at the self-checkout lane.

Walmart App and QR Code

Although Walmart does not accept mobile payment options like Apple Pay or Google Pay, they offer their own secure and easy-to-use mobile payment solution called Walmart Pay.

To use Walmart Pay, you must download the Walmart app and sign in to your account.

Add a payment method to the app, and during checkout, use the app to scan a QR code generated at the register, which will automatically process your payment.

Gift Cards

Walmart offers gift cards as another flexible payment option. You can use physical and digital Walmart gift cards to purchase in-store or online. To redeem a gift card, simply present the physical card or digital code from your smartphone to the cashier or enter it online during the payment process.

EBT Cards

Walmart also accepts Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards as a payment method for eligible products, such as groceries and select household items. If you’re using an EBT card, provide it to the cashier or swipe it yourself at the self-checkout lane.

Keep in mind that non-eligible items will need to be paid for with another payment method.

Alternative Payment Methods at Walmart

While Walmart doesn’t accept Apple Pay, you can use various other convenient payment methods at their stores. This section will explore alternatives such as PayPal and Affirm, Apple Card, and Capital One Walmart Credit Cards.

PayPal and Affirm

You may not be able to use Apple Pay at Walmart, but you can take advantage of PayPal as an alternative method. PayPal is a widely accepted digital wallet that lets you securely shop online and in-store. Affirm is another option for purchasing items at Walmart, allowing you to buy now and pay later through installment plans.

Apple Card

If you’re an Apple user looking for an alternative to Apple Pay, consider using the Apple Card, a credit card designed by Apple and issued by Goldman Sachs. With the Apple Card, you can earn cashback on your purchases at Walmart, and it can be easily added to your Apple Wallet for seamless transactions.

Capital One Walmart Credit Cards

Capital One offers a range of Walmart-branded credit cards designed to benefit Walmart shoppers. These credit cards provide cashback and various other rewards for your purchases. Consider applying for a Capital One Walmart Credit Card to maximize your savings and convenience while shopping at Walmart.

The Takeaway

If you love convenient NFC payments like Apple Pay, then expect to use it elsewhere for the time being. Walmart doesn’t take it, and as they develop their payment systems further, it likely won’t make use of the other options anytime soon.
